Advising

All students in pursuing a degree in general studies are advised by the assistant dean or staff advisors.

If you need to be advised, make an appointment to meet with an advisor. Contact our main office by phone (337-482-6829), email (universitycollege@louisiana.edu) or come to DeClouet Hall, Room 104, to schedule your advising appointment. We want to help you secure your advising appointment in the most efficient manner, so we encourage you to schedule your advising appointment early.

We take pride in customizing your advising experience, and that includes having your file ready when you arrive for your appointment. To make sure we can provide that, please identify yourself when you call to make your appointment.

When you call, please let us know if you are:

  • presently a University College major?
  • a University College major graduating this semester or next?
  • seeking to transfer from another major at UL?
  • re-entering University College after a period of absence?

If you are presently majoring in another college and you are seeking to change your major to University College, be sure to let our staff know. This will save you valuable time towards getting the answers you are looking for. We can help you start the process with our transfer plan.

Online Program Advising

If you are a student in the General Studies Online (GSO) program and want to schedule an advising appointment, email your General Studies Online advisor (Mrs. Sharon Williams-Gregory, at sharon.williams-gregory@louisiana.edu or Mrs. Dwan Alexander-Cluse at dwan.alexander@louisiana.edu).

Graduation Check-Out Advising

Graduation check-out advising takes place the semester before you plan to graduate. The Assistant Dean of Univesity College provides that advising. You can either call the University College Office at 337-482-6829 or come into our office in DeClouet Hall, Room 104 to set up this appointment.  At that time, you will be enrolled in the Graduation Checkout Moodle page where two assignments are required to be completed prior to your Graduation Checkout scheduled appointment.

This appointment is specifically designed to take place the semester before you plan to graduate in order to insure that you have what you need for graduation.  At this time, your final "Degree Plan" will be completed for your upcoming walk across the stage!  Don't put it off - schedule your Graduation Check Out Appointment in lieu of regular advising once you have less than 24 hours remaining in your curriculum.
